2021 ThankView Gives Back Week

In June 2020, the ThankView leadership team did something radical: it gave its employees $1,000 to donate to the organization of their choice.

This year we graduated from a Gives Back Day to a ThankView Gives Back Week–filled with hype around each employee’s 2021 donation and volunteering events both virtual and in-person.

In total, ThankView raised over $31,000 for 63 organizations. 

Here are the organizations and why our employees supported them.

Brooklyn NAACP

In the short time I’ve lived in Brooklyn, I’ve come to really consider it home. Brooklyn is the most diverse community I’ve ever lived in and the people here really, truly care about their town and they put their love of it into action. They march, they watch each other’s backs, they take part in the community, and they speak up for justice. I want to do my part in supporting my community too and that’s why I want this donation to go to the Brooklyn NAACP.

This is a local nonprofit in my area that provides legal help to immigrants who are applying for U.S. citizenship for free or for a low cost. An immigration lawyer can cost thousands of dollars so IACO helps so many people who couldn’t normally afford these services. Especially now with predatory ICE policies and the anti-immigrant rhetoric in the country, I think it’s important to support local initiatives like this one. This is a personal one for me since they’ve helped members of my family in their citizenship journey.

I choose to donate to AFSP’s Project 2025 because AFSP is an organization that’s been near and dear to my heart since losing my cousin, Timmy, to suicide in 2015. Project 2025 is a nationwide initiative to reduce the annual rate of suicide in the US 20% by 2025, because even though more is being done today than ever before to prevent suicide, the rate continues to rise in the US. I not only want to help AFSP achieve this goal, but I also want to help remove the stigma around talking about mental health in general. By shining a light on projects like this, my hope is that more people will know that they are seen, loved, and appreciated, even if they don’t always feel that way, and that they have people to lean on and resources available to them <3

The plight of refugees and immigrants fleeing violence, only to be met with more state-sanctioned violence and family separation in detention centers, is an issue that resonates with me deeply.
